About the play
The Greek fleet is stranded at Aulis with no wind to fill their sails and speed them onward to Troy. Their leader Agamemnon has been told that the only way to change their fate, is to sacrifice his daughter, Iphigenia.
Euripides ancient tragedy examines what leaders will do for power, and asks why the young must pay the biggest price in times of war.
