Second year ALRA South students Chanel McKenzie and Autumn Osborn, founders of the @poetryworlduk social media accounts, have started a Twitter initiative in response to the George Floyd murder.

During the current political climate in the US, so many of us worldwide have been devastated by the horrific news of what happened to George Floyd. Chanel and Autumn are raising awareness to stop these horrific acts of racism continuing. The scheme is for actors, writers and poets to create a 60-90 second piece of spoken word or poetry based on George Floyd’s death.

Along with a performative contribution, Chanel and Autumn are asking participants to donate to the Official George Floyd Memorial Fund and to watch, like and share other entries to spread the word. The deadline is 15th June, and the winning three entries will be gifted a free writing workshop with a leading poet and writer.

Chanel said, "We decided that we needed to do something that would support the greater movement and contribute to change. Enough is enough – the time for change is now".

To get involved, visit the thread on @poetryworlduk's Twitter page and reply to the original Tweet with your entry.
